Firm History

EVER SINCE 1931, our firm has tried to exceed our clients' expectations with solutions that are custom-tailored to their specific needs. We are committed to offering our clients a combination of state-of-the-art technology, a thorough understanding of the latest financial developments and expert financial know-how. Steve Staley and Ron Eib, firm partners, carry on the legacy passed by Henry Cuneo, Stephen Fried, Robert Lawson, and Maurice Shay of Cuneo, Fried, Lawson and Shay. The firm was founded over 70 years ago, as Cuneo and Company, in downtown Kansas City and remains right in the middle of downtown, today. We do not dress casually nor do we take your business casually. Our practice remains firmly anchored in the values and standards upon which it was founded.

    Firm Partners (Owners)

    R. Stephen (Steve) Staley, CPA, CVA - Audits, business valuations, management advisory and income tax planning
    Steve Staley is our firm's managing partner. He joined us more than 27 years ago. Steve graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a degree in business administration. Steve conducted his post graduate studies in accounting and law at Rockhurst University in preparation for the CPA exam. Steve has a wealth of experience consulting with business owners on all aspects of business and financial planning. The Certified Valuation Analyst credential, CVA, is evidence of expertise in business valuations, awarded only to CPAs who meet rigorous qualifications. Steve's non-traditional experience includes financial and tax accounting for entity sales, mergers and acquisitions, consolidation of foreign subsidiaries, consolidation with foreign parents and foreign sales corporations. Steve spent time in private industry before coming into public accounting allowing him a hands-on experience with running a private company. Steve stands ready to apply his uncommon business sense to your situation.

    Ronald L. (Ron) Eib, CPA - Audits, ERISA plan audits, income tax planning and accounting systems
    Ron Eib joined the firm more than 25 years ago. Ron graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a BS in accounting. Ron is recognized as a leading expert in consulting with and auditing of ERISA subject, multi-employer welfare, pension, vacation and training benefit plans. Several of his pension plan clients rank in the top 20 in the Kansas City area, by total assets, with assets of more than $400,000,000. Ron serves a diverse clientele, ranging from the mom and pop shop to the multi-million dollar corporations with complex structures and accounting. With his vast audit experience, Ron frequently gets called in to investigate when fraud is a risk.
